In Nashville TN, on my own, away from the Christian bubble of friends i lived in and around, I began to really ask what is Christianity, and why do I believe in it? Why does a loving God let some much hate and brokenness happen in the world? Trying to answer these questions felt like swimming across an ocean and I never felt able to get to the other side. I almost decided to stop swimming and give up faith, but I realized when I looked back at where I had swan... God was there. In the moment, I didn't see him, but after the fact I could see how he was painting the picture of my life, and that is why I still swim today, and why I wrote this song.
